A Little About Me

I am a highly motivated yoga instructor currently teaching in Chesham at The Town Hall. I hold a certificate in Baptiste Power Yoga, pranayama, theming and chair yoga. I am passionate about yoga and its many benefits; seeking to connect and share experience with others to become our own teachers and live our best lives.

I found yoga fairly late in life when I was going through a particularly rough patch and it quite literally saved me. As I progressed along my yoga journey the benefits just kept coming and it gave me a renewed and heightened zest for life and a focus on my future like I had never had before. I decided then that I wanted to bring yoga to other people in the hope that they too would reap the benefits, positively enhancing their lives, futures and mindset.

It was lovely to have such a long break over August when I got to do less and be more. But it is also good to be back in the swing of things, likely sweeter because of a break!

 

For the next few weeks, the theme will revolve around the five pillars of Baptiste power yoga; vinyasa (flowing between poses with breath), ujjayi (ocean breath), drishti (focusing on one spot), tapas (inner fire or discipline) and the bandhas (energy locks in the body).

 

My first routine was created with drishti in mind; in the first sequence everything was forward facing, including the pelvis, where the natural choice of drishti was more limited, for example, up, down or facing forward, or to the floor with balancing poses, such as warrior 3.

 

The two other sequences, worked with the side body, where focus was often more about personal choice and what feels right, and lastly a third sequence involving twisting (including reverse half moon in the pic), which had both natural places for the gaze to fall as well as personal choice.

 

Drishti can really help still the mind in poses, as, of course, the more our eyes move the more information is sent through to the mind and it can really help reduce distractions helping to unite mind and body.
